Several senior security officers in connection with an ongoing investigation into a major drug trafficking operation, Liberia National Police Inspector General, Gregory Coleman disclosed in Monrovia today, Thursday, July 30, 2026.

LNP IG Coleman disclosed that investigators uncovered evidence showing that state security personnel allegedly played a key role in transporting narcotics from the landing site to a holding location. According to Coleman, the shipment was escorted by police vehicles, with one vehicle leading and another following the convoy.

He disclosed that the government has been getting support from foreign governments and international partners, announcing the arrival in the country of some agents of the US Drug Enforcement Administration.

They are said to have begun an extensive investigation aimed at dismantling the cartel network. He said key partners in the operation include the U.S. DEA DEA, Morocco’s anti-drug agency, and Rwandan authorities.

Among the senior state security offiers charged are Highway Patrol Chief Wadia Quabo and Major Crimes Chief Anthony Blaye. Both officers have been detained at LNP Headquarters and are expected to be forwarded to court for prosecution.

The Police IG also revealed that the Deputy Commander assigned to the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) at Roberts International Airport (RIA) has been identified as a significant person of interest in the investigation.

He emphasized that additional state security personnel remain under active investigation as authorities work to uncover the full scope of the alleged trafficking network.

The LNP says updates on the investigation will be provided through its Press and Public Affairs Division, while assuring the public that everyone found responsible will face the full weight of the law, regardless of rank or position.

The Police IG further alleged that the drug cartel network has been heavily supported by past and current senior state actors including members of the national joint security apparatus, senior government ministers, directors of public institutions, and other high-ranking officials.

‎‎ Meanwhile, the Joint Security Task Force earlier today, Thursday, July 30, 2026 said they destroyed the two separate consignments of cocaine seized in the past several weeks—the US$19.2 million and US$317 million at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) and the VOA Community along the RIA Highway.
