The Naymote Partners for Democratic Development has released its latest performance report on the CDC government’s commitment to its campaign promises, suggesting that the Weah administration still lags behind in fulfilling them.

Of 92 campaign promises tracked, nearly two years after coming to power, only seven have so far been completed. But NAYMOTE also reports that 38 others are in progress.

At the same time, the election watchdog group asserts that it could not rate 47 other promises due to lack of information to monitor them.

The 92 promises being followed through by the civil society grouping 65 are contained in the CDC 2017 Manifesto, with the remaining 27 coming from campaign speeches, policy statements and presidential priority projects.

The group also named the completed projects as the “payment of the WASSCE fees for all 12th grade students (public and private schools), renovation of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, the passage of the Land Rights Act and the reduction of salaries for public officials under the Executive branch of Government”.

It mentioned other fulfilled promises as the pavement of the road connecting the Doe Community to Clara Town, the construction of the homes for victims of the New Kro Town fire disaster and the launch of the revised National School Curriculum (Grades 1-12).

The four pillars under which the promises are categorized in sequence are Power to the People, Economy and Jobs, Sustaining the Peace and Governance and Transparency.

According to the Executive Director of the Naymote Partners for Democratic Development, Eddie Jarwolo, “the objective of the President Meter is to promote democratic accountability, improve government’s performance and strengthen public service delivery”.

He also added that his “institution is providing the space for ordinary citizens to contribute and participate in their democracy, and to hold their elected leaders accountable on campaign promises made”.

At the close of the assessment report, the organization advanced a four count recommendation underscoring the need for government’s cooperation in providing timely information to the project.

It also wants the Weah administration to develop a results-oriented communication strategy that facilitates a “a two-way flow of information between the government and citizens”, an inter-ministerial committee set up to coordinate efforts to fulfill the promises and to “develop a monitoring and evaluation system for monitoring government’s promises and link them to the pillars of the Pro-Poor Agenda and its implementation”.
