KAKATA, Liberia- Citizens of Margibi 2nd electoral District over the weekend gathered in the Town Hall of Dolo Town to make determination on the usage of the China Union Social Development Fund in the tone of seven hundred and fifty thousand (US$750,000) and money allocated in the 2019/2020 national budget.

This also includes the over US$200,000 County Development Fund and the US$56,000 Firestone Land rental fee.

The citizens also made determination on the usage of the remaining amount from the one hundred thousand United States dollars that was remitted to the County by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning from the 2018/2019 national budget.

The Representative of District #2, Ivar K. Jones in an interview with Journalists at the end of the sitting said the event will lead the District to the upcoming County Sitting.

According to him, whatever the citizens decided on will be forwarded to the County Administration during the 2019/2020 County Sitting by the delegates.

He disclosed that there was a resolution drafted at the sitting which covers projects that were agreed on during the 2018/2019 District and County Sittings, but the amounts needed for the implementation of those projects were not remitted to the County by the central government.

The Margibi Lawmaker asserted that when the China Union US$750,000 was allotted to the County, there was a special sitting held at the Capitol Building and the delegates agreed on the implementation of the same projects in the District but due to Senator Oscar A. Cooper’s lawsuit they could not again be implemented.

Rep. Jones named the brought forward projects as the pavement of the Unification Town road, the construction of a bridge between Dolo Town and Smell No Taste and the construction of additional classrooms at the Charlesville Public School.

He added that during the sitting the District two citizens agreed on two additional projects such as the completion of a pit latrine at the Harbel Multilateral High School Campus and the allotment of US$10,000 for the erection of a youth center and women empowerment program in the district.

From the US$750,000 China Union Social Development the delegates at the special sitting held at the Capitol Building allotted 10% of the amount to the Project Management Committee for operation, while 5% was allotted to the affected community, eight thousand to the Mboo Statutory District and five thousand to the Media Community, Rep. Jones said.

From the remaining amount, the Lawmaker said over one hundred thousand United States dollars was allocated for infrastructure development, eighteen thousand three hundred and forty nine United States dollars for scholarship while six thousand five hundred and fifteen United States dollars was allocated for disaster management all in District #2.

All the issues were captured in the District sitting and will be carried forth to the County sitting couple with other things that were left with the District Two Development Council.

The District Sitting which was organized by Representative Ivar K. Jones through the District Two Development Council brought together a cross-section of citizens from across the District with and National Observers including IREDD.
