MONROVIA, Liberia —Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah says tensions at the Solomba border in Lofa County between has eased, after Guinean military personnel and Liberia’s Joint Security and local officials held a cordial meeting.
The overflowing of the river linking the two West African states caused the displacement of the border post used by Guinean soldiers across the river.
Information Minister Piah said representatives of Liberia and Guinea met on August 10, 2026 and agreed to remain calm and exercise restraint as diplomatic efforts continue to address the situation.
According to Minister Piah, both sides reaffirmed the longstanding relationship between Liberia and Guinea as neighboring countries, emphasizing the need for continued unity and peaceful co-existence.
He said the situation at the Solo border is currently peaceful, calm, and stable, following the high-level meeting.
Meanwhile, Minister Piah disclosed that the Liberian Government is engaging authorities in Côte d’Ivoire over the arrest of the RB Atlantic vessel by Ivorian authorities.
He said diplomatic efforts are underway to facilitate the return of the vessel to Liberia, where it is expected to undergo further investigation.
Minister Piah assured that the government remains engaged with the relevant authorities to resolve both matters through dialogue and diplomatic channels.
