Sanniquellie, Liberia-The Nimba Clean Water Access Project when implemented will benefit about 400,214 inhabitants in this northeastern county, the NGO, Last Well has disclosed.
Addressing reporters at the official launch of the Last Well Clean Water project on recently, Mr. Frank Saah Foko, Jr. said Nimba is one of Liberia’s most populated counties that is in need pure water and sanitation projects.
The Inspector General of WASH Commission of Liberia, Mr. Foko explained that the project will cover the construction of 253 hand pumps, rehabilitation of the damage 287 hand pumps and distribution of 9,070 water filters in the county, respectively.
According to the Water Point Atlas, Nimba has 17% access to limited water supply services in the country. The report also shows that Nimba County has 1,881 functional water pumps, 199 water pumps are working with problems, and 401 broke down water pump with 563 water committees.
Nimba has about 563,000 inhabitants, according to the Liberia Household Income and Expenditure Survey.
The Last Well is implementing the project in partnership with several other groups. They are Living Water International, Water of Life, World Hope International, Water4, Vision Collaborators, Equip Liberia, LURA and GUCDA.
Nimba County Superintendent Dorr Cooper launched the Last Well Clean Water project at the County’s Administration Building in Sanniquellie.
