Health Ministry & Partners To Distribute Mosquito Nets In Lofa County Soon

VOINJAMA, Liberia- The Ministry of Health through the Lofa County Health Team / National Malaria Control Program in collaboration with its partners are expected to shortly launch the distribution of Insecticide Treated Mosquito Nets across the County.

Making the disclosure at a well-attended stakeholders meeting in Voinjama, the Malaria Focal Person at the Lofa County Health Team, Madam Mona Peter indicated that the distribution process will shortly follow the household registration process which is currently taking place in the six health districts across the county.

According to her, the distribution process is a direct response to the fight aimed at reducing malaria cases which has become a significant public health concern.

“Malaria remained a serious health challenge in our county and country and therefore, we must all work hand in hand towards the eradication of malaria,” she added.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the Community Safety Initiative Samuka Sannoh said that the distribution of the nets will affect every household across the County and at the same time underscored the importance of collective actions in the fight against malaria.

He then used the occasion to warm citizens against what he called misuse of the mosquito nets upon receiving them.

According to him, some citizens are in the habit of using the nets to fish in rivers while others are sometimes seen taking the nets to neighbouring guinea for commercial proposes

“If we can strive to improve the utilization of the bed nets, we will be improving our indicator for Malaria. We want to encourage every Lofans and also Liberian to take cover under the nets. Protect yourselves and your families against malaria and stay healthy because a healthy nation is a prosperous nation.”

The meeting according to our correspondent, brought together local authorities, security personnel, representatives from the civil society organizations, media institutions, persons with disabilities he religious communities to ensure that everyone understands their roles and responsibilities during the nets distribution process.
