A former official of the Congress For Democratic Change now Coalition for Democratic Change, Laramaad S. Nyonton, has observed that the CDC led government is gradually losing the fight against COVID-19, due to the involvement of inexperienced political actors and lack of workable strategies.

According to him, the government health and economic methods, ranging from testing, economic stimulus package and supply of medical equipment for health centers to combat the killer virus are still questionable and weak.

He argued that currently, several health workers and centers do not have protective equipment ;which is leading to the reported  spread of transmission of the virus from one person to another.

Ambassador Nyonton further said that continuous delay by the government to implement the US$ 25 million stimulus program is causing serious economic hardship for thousands of Liberians and other nationals who are residing here.

He feels strongly that this is leading to the massive turnout of people at various areas who are not observing social distancing and wearing of facemask, due to limited purchasing power of consumable products; coupled with challenging economic problems they are presently faced with.

The former Montserrado District#12 Representative candidate proposed that the Weah-led government should redesign a private sector approach in the fight against this global health crisis, in order to get the desired positive results, void of politics.

He said if government agrees for this present health crisis to be private sector driven, serious-minded medical techicians will be involved; thus helping the country to be COVID-19 free, which could enable Liberia starts normal economic activities.

“It is an open secret that this partial lockdown is not working because; every area is overcrowded ; which is against COVID-19 fight due to hunger that is facing everybody.”

“Government did not study the situation, but announced state of emergency or lockdown without looking at the economic implication, it has on vast majority of the population who cannot afford,”Mr. Nyonton added.
