The crisis that erupted among the leaders in gold-rich Bangorma Town, Tewor District, Grand Cape County as a result of the signing of a memorandum of understanding between some local leaders and the Bea Mining Company has been resolved.
Last week, this paper reported that confusion erupted among the leadership in the township following the signing of an MoU between the company and some segments of the leadership for the relocation of the residents to make way for the mining of the huge deposit of gold by the company.

The MoU was signed between the traditional leaders and the management of the Bea Mining Company for the relocation of the residents following the discovery of huge deposit of gold under the town.
However, following four days of negotiation among the leaders of Bangorma residing in Monrovia and representatives of the traditional leaders, the conflicting parties on Thursday, June 4, 2024 resolved their misunderstanding by signing five-count recommendations.
The recommendations, among other things, agreed for them to reconcile their differences as leaders of Bangorma Town and resolved to work together for the general good of the community.

No environmental impact assessment by EPA yet
Following the press conference announcing their resolution of the conflict, copies of the agreement were sent to all of the members the Gran Cape Mount Legislative Caucus, the Bea Mining Company and the leaderships of the former conflicting parties.
Nothing was mentioned about the 60,000 United States Dollars owed the community by the Bea Mining Company, the quantity of gold discovered in the Bangorma, and the design of the housing units that will be constructed to host those who will be affected by the relocated of the town.
The Environmental Protection Agency has not done any environmental impact assessment in Bangorma to determine whether or not the source of water, farmland, sacred and burial grounds will be affected.
