A one-day-long Grassroots Basketball Development Clinic got underway in Kakata, Margibi County during the course of last week for female school going kids from age 10-18yrs old.
The Grassroots Basketball Development Clinic was under the initiative of one of Liberia top-tier female basketball club D-Rockas Basketball Club on Montserrado County.
At the St. Augustine Episcopal Mission High School Basketball Court in Kakata, Margibi County on Thursday, 27 June brought over 25 female school going kids be taught some rules and basic basketball skills under the supervision of D-Rockas Female Basketball Club.
The outreach which marks the first for the Montserrado County based basketball club D-Rockas Basketball club witness some of the students been taught about such sports for the very first time in their lives.
It saw some bulks of the players interacting with the female counterparts.
Giving an overview of such initiative Club’s president Ali Sylla said such initiative was done between him and Amb Agnes Sackor Parker a female advocate in Kakata and Margibi County at large.
“We want to admit we are grateful for such opportunity because you see for yourself the court is pack of only schools was not given test I know this number could have increase,” says Sylla.
The energetic club president Sylla thanks the student too for such cooperation on behalf of his club and he added by saying that this should not just be the first and last of such initiative but you all have to make your dream come to reality if you want to a basketballer.
For her part team’s Captain Smile Capehart used the occasion to say thanks to the kids for such interact on behalf of the technical staffs and players.
” To admit most of started like his but from what I am seeing here some of you have raw talent all you need is to believe yourself and make your dream come true.
While on the other hand Doreen Johnson a student of the George V. Gibson Methodist High School in Kakata, Margibi County extended thanks to the family of D-Rockas Basketball Female Club onbehalf of her colleagues.
“For me I have been playing basketball but to admit today I learned some new techniques and some means of becoming who I want to be in playing basketball” says 17-yrd-old Johnson.
At the same time Doreen Johnson pleaded by asking the public to help them in making the dream come to reality.
“Thank God today we were given balls because whenever we go practice we have to wait for the male team to finish before we start practice. Please we need more ball and jersey for our club ” days Johnson.
In another development, at the day long Grassroots Basketball Development Clinic D-Rockas Basketball Club donated balls to two newly female basketball clubs and host St. Augustine Episcopal Mission High School.
Clubs which benefitted from D-Rockas Basketball Club’s clinic are GIBI Hustler Queen (3 balls) Kakata -Rockets (1) while on the other hand St. Augustine Episcopal Mission High School received two (2) basketballs.
All of the beneficiary thanked D-Rockas Basketball Club and promise that such gesture will be used for to bring female basketballer out in Kakata, Margibi County.
The one Day long Grassroots Basketball Development Clinic saw D-Rockas Basketball Club entire officials, technical staffs and players in Kakata, Margibi County.
While the club’s president Ali Sylla is out of the country the club’s Vice President for Administration Abraham Dolley takes charge of the club day to day affairs in the country as he was also part of such high power delegation in Kakata, Margibi County for such initiative.
D-Rockas Basketball Club is a female club competing in the top-tier league of the Liberia Basketball Association (LBA).
