SPORTS: Liberia Climbs 10 Places In FIFA World Ranking

MONROVIA (LINA)- Liberia Men’s Senior National Team, Lonestar has advanced 10 places in FIFA Coca-Cola World Cup Ranking from 152 to 142 in recent time making the country as biggest climber.

The FIFA-Coca-Cola recent ranking has put Liberia Men’s Senior National as the biggest riser, climbing 10 places following an undefeated start in 2024 in qualification matches for FIFA World Cup 2026, AFCON 2025 and other other developmental initiatives by the Football governing of Liberia its partners.

As part of the gains made by the Senior National Team, Liberia played host to Namibia with a comfortable 1_1 draw in Orlando, Johannesburg, SouthAfrica who was almost 50 places of Liberia in FIFA Ranking and also a win against Sao Tome in qualifiers. Adding that this increase sees Liberia in thier highest position in seven years.

According to the statement, the recent FIFA Rankings are in and Liberia is the highest climber by points (up 37.47 points) and the biggest mover by ranks (up 10 ranks. 152 to 142).

The statement further noted that the upturn in fortune follows a significant investment in soccer from the Liberia Football Association and FIFA Forward Programme.

“On the overall we extend thanks and appreciation to FIFA Council for the continuous support and the FIFA Forward programs.

This has been a key factor in the survival of Liberia football. We believe that with these supports, our football will continue to improve for the good of the game.” 2023 saw the LFA open its new headquarters in the capital, Monrovia, with the project fully funded by FIFA Forward and supported through FIFA’s regional office in Dakar”. LFA said.

Today, through the FIFA Forward Programme, Liberia has witnessed the refurbishment of its National Stadium, SKD, installation of stadium lights for night matches, a giant LED Screen at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium, one artificial soccer pitch installed at SKD Mini Stadium and many other initiatives attributing to milestone for Liberia in World Ranking.

Liberia Senior National Team in World Ranking as a biggest climber in soccer can also be attributed to the leadership of Mustapha I Raji that the association is proud of its own modern Headquarters serving as home of Lonestar as well as providing administrative services, referees and coaching programmes as well as sports media training.
