Liberian Gov’t Confirms One Death, Several Injured During Protest At Bea Mountain

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has confirmed the death of one person and several others injured in Kinjor, Grand Cape Mount County, following a day-long protest at Bea Mountain Mining Company.

Workers of the Company staged the protest in demand for better living standards.

At a press conference on Thursday, February 29, 2024, Information Minister Jerolimek Piah, disclosed that the Liberian Government is working out modalities to address the concerns of the workers.

Minister Piah said:” The Government has dispatched a team comprising the Ministries of Labor, Mines and Energy, as well as the National Bureau of Concessions, to investigate the demands of the workers.”

The Information Minister, however, disclosed an ongoing investigation into Thursday’s occurrence to establish circumstances surrounding the incident that led to the disturbances at the Bea Mountain Company.
