Bong’s New Superintendent Calls For Unity To Spur Development

As She Takes Office Promising To Lead With Impact And Start With Audit

GBARNGA, Liberia- Bong County’s newly inducted Superintendent, Hawa Loleya Norris has called for unity, noting that disunity has stagnated development in this central county over the years.

Madam Norris, the fourth female Suprintendent in the history of Bong, promised to initiate a series of dialogue that will help to mend some of the major broken pieces.

“I will over the coming days initiate a reconciliation and make it a routine priority that will keep the legislative caucus and the Superintendent’s office focused to towards the peace” Madam Norris added.

The new Bong County Superintendent, who said she is result-oriented and self-motivated leader, promised to initiate a reconciliatory dialogue across the county judging from the just-ended general elections, that the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) narrowly won the Unity Party (UP) in the county.

“We now have a modern party leadership in Bong County. This should ring the bell of reconciliation in our mind as we drive towards unity, and sustainibility, development for the betterment of our people. In the midst of conflicts, there will be no development as has been witnessed,” she noted.

Under her watch, the former representative candidate in electoral district#3, promised residents of Bong County that she will focus on Education, youth empowerment and road connectivity asserting it will help foster the developmental process of the county.

“Youth development and employment have always been a challenge, and need to be attended to under my leadership. Also, agriculture productivity is relatively low. I will endeavor to encourage the formation of more agricultural Corporative and lobby for donor funding to fund them” the former official of the YMCA assured.

Audit for the county

The current female representative of the Africa Alliance of the YMCAs has promised to launch a comprehensive audit in the county.

Madam Hawa Loleyah Norris stated that the audit will help to inform her leadership on the workings of the county over the years, successes, developments, challenges and recommendations that will move the county forward.

She clarified that her action is not witchhunt anyone, stressing that “we have come to reconcile, improve and develop Bong County as the forward match of Bong will not business as usual”.

Madam Hawa Loleyah Norris openly called on citizens to hold together for the forward match of the county.

Madam Hawa Loleya Norris has an expertise in networking, teambuilding, program management, project design and implementation with emphasis on community mobilization, community/youth development, advocating for women’s rights and governance.

Madam Norris’ statement was contained in a special assertion she delivered during the induction ceremony of local leaders in Bong County.

Some of those inducted include: Madam Loleyah Hawa Norris, Superintendent, Hon. Sam B. Elliot, County Administrative Officer (formerly County Inspctor), Silas Tokpa, County Finance Officer (formerly Fiscal Affairs Superintendent), Gallah Varpillah, Gbarnga City Mayor, Sedekie Kromah, County Development Officer (formerly Development Superintendent), among others.

District Commissioners and Relieving Commissioners were all inducted on Tuesday, May 14- Unification Day.

Speaking earlier during the transitional process, former Bong County superintendent Esther Yarmah Walker praised former President George Manneh Weah for providing the opportunity to serve over the last six years.

According to Madam Walker, under her leadership, the then Project Management Committee headed by Mr. Steve Jorquelleh Mulbah didn’t give a report to the County Council, thus calling on the new leadership for funding to be withheld until the due process is done.

In her report over the last six years, Madam Walker also listed liabilities owed to several institutions including the Bong County Sports Steering Committee, thus calling on the new leadership to settle them after the lifting of the moratorium.

Speaking with reporters, some residents expressed confidence in the new leadership.
