TEMPLE OF JUSTICE, Monrovia- Rape in Liberia now becoming a sport for men, as underage girls and at times even infants being victimized.
Days after a video interview with a 15-year-old girl who was allegedly raped and impregnated by her stepfather surfaced on the Social media, a 53-year-old man along with another 20-year-old man were on Friday, May 29, 2020 sent to jail by the Monrovia City Court at the Temple of Justice.
The women and children protection section of the Liberia National Police in Monrovia had earlier charged and sent two men to court two for alleged rape.
Police charged Defendant Jonathan Joe Fiske, age 53 with the crime of rape in violation of Chapter 14 Sub-Chapter D section Section 14.70(a)(I) of the 2005 rape law of Liberia. the crime of rape is non-bailable.
According to the police charge sheet, Defendant Fiske was arrested and acquainted with his Constitution right duly investigated in the presence of his oldest brother S. Francis Targaye and charged with crime mentioned above based on a complaint filed by the victim’s relative.
The victim complained to police investigators that her 12-year-old niece was sexually abused (raped) by the Defendant in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
During an interview with the complainant, she informed the investigators that the victim is her late brother’s biological daughter, who has been living with her in Montserrado County.
The complainant stated that at the beginning of 2019, her childhood friend, Maybel Cooper informed her sister Esther Faith and husband Jonathan Joe Fiske love her nice.
The complainant further that while, the victim was living with Defendant and his wife, he began showing the victim porn video from his phone and he eventually and sexually abused her by inserting his penis in her private part.
As for the defendant Jonathan Joe Fiske, he was acquainted with his constitutional right and when confronted with the allegation of rape meted out against by the victim, defendant Fiske categorically denied ever raping the victim.
But he admitted that the victim had been witnessing porn video on his phone without his consent.
Police investigation revealed that the statement from the victim and other witnesses corroborated, as it relates to the allegation made against the Defendant.
At the same time, a 20 year-old man has also been sent to the Monrovia Central Prison for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl in the Joe Bar community in Paynesville community, outside Monrovia.
Investigation conducted by the women and children protection section of the Liberia National Police on May 23, 2020, Jacqueline Allison Saye, age 35 reported and alleged that her 16-year-old daughter was sexually abused by defendant Edwin Farwor, a security guard of the corporate security services assigned to her compound at Vokar Mission AB Tolbert Road.
Complainant Jacqueline told the investigators that Monday evening, May 18, 2020, she took her son Prince N. Saye Jr’s cellphone, in an effort to seize it because he was not attentive to home studies.
The complainant narrated to the investigators that she decided to check the phone and during the searched she realized that he had a messenger to her surprise, it was had messenger chat. And while going through the chat, she saw a chat from the security guard Edwin Farwor, which was very disturbing that included sexual messages and porn video from the defendant.
After seeing such porn video, she immediately informed her husband Prince N. Saye Sr. who in turn forwarded a formal complaint to the head of the Corporate Guard Security services. And May 20, 2020, the Head of Security forwarded the defendant Farwor’s statement to her husband, which confirmed that he had sexual contact with her daughter.
During an interview with the victim, she narrated that in 2019, her father brought defendant Farwor and two other security guards to their house to work. And one day, she carried her phone for charging to the security booth. When she went for her phone, she saw a message from the defendant expressing his love for her.
The victim further told the investigators that after receiving such message from the defendant, he later added her on messenger and he sent her love messages and pornography video on her messenger. And he often went to her window at night passed his hand through her window played with her legs and private part.
According to the victim, for each time she is sitting alone, defendant Farwor will come to her his hand in her bra and played with her breast and sometime put his hand in her underclothes and play with her private part.
Once my parents go out of town, defendant Farwor will come by 12 midday. So one day while sitting alone, the defendant came and put hand in her night gown, played with her breast, put his hand in her private part and fingered her. Later, he is said to have stood up, opened his zipper and inserted his penis in her private part. But she further explained that it was hurting her and she later left from under him and ran inside the bathroom.
For his part, Defendant Farwor admitted to the messenger chat being exchanged between him and the victim, including the viewing of the pornography video. He also admitted that he had played with the victim private part and did have sexual intercourse with her.
According to him, while having sex with the minor, she escaped and went inside the bathroom.
