Pres. Boakai Welcomes Supreme Court’s Ruling But Suspends LTA Board Of Commissioners

The Supreme Court of Liberia earlier ruled that President Joseph Nnuma Boakai has violated the law on tenured positions by appointing/nominating his pic to the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) and other government institutions with tenured positions since he took power in January.

The President has also suspended the Chairperson and Commissioner of the Governance Commission (GC).

“Wherefore and in view of the Foregoing, the alternative writ of prohibition issued by the Justice in Chambers is hereby quashed and the peremptory writ prayed for denied,” said the Supreme Court ruling on April 24, 2024. After the ruling, the Executive Mansion issued a statement saying that the Liberian leader has welcomed the high court’s ruling.

But the President has later announced the suspension of the LTA Board of Commissioners.
