SPORTS: SWAL Ends One-Day Sports Journalist Training

The Sports Writers Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports has certificated forty-six (46) sports Journalists, after successfully completing a daylong training.

The one-day training was held on Wednesday,10 April at the Ministry of Youth Sports head office at the SKD Sports Complex in Monrovia’s Paynesville suburb.

The training, which focused on basic rules governing football, kickball and the national county sports meet, brought together the 46 Journalists from four counties namely Montserrado, Grand Bassa, Bong and Margibi.

Speaking at the seminar, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Andy Quamie said the initiative is parts of efforts to empower sports journalists in Liberia.

While in attendance include SWAL VP and Assistant Secretary-General Jerome C Willie Jr.

SWAL Vice eep, Christopher Walker asserted that the training which is the first of its kind is aimed at ensuring sports journalists have the requisite skills in the sector.

Veteran Journalist Hassan Kiawu who served as one of the facilitators, cautioned sports journalists to go beyond their call of duty and focus on investigative and quality sports reporting.

Sports Journalist, Benjamin Garkpah rapped on live sports commentaries and basic sports jargons to climax the daylong activity at the SKD sports complex in Paynesville city.

Others who facilitated during the include Asistant Sports Minister, Murvee Gray and Kickball president, Emmanuel Surprise Whea.

The 46 sports Journalist certificated at the one day include Andrew P. Kollie, Jeff Kaikai, Rebeun Barclay, Ezekiel Mçgill, Joshua Freeman, Alex Juah ( Margibi County),  Freedy Gayflor ( Bong), Eric N. Collins, J.Melton Yoko ,  Rolland James, Hawa Siryon, Augustus Auggie Audekina-Doe  (Montserrado County), among others.
