Another peaceful protest in Liberia calling for war, economic crimes court

Hundreds of Liberians on Monday staged a march in Monrovia calling for the setting up of a war and economic crimes court, with demonstrators petitioning the United States and European Union Embassies near the Liberian capital.
The protestors, many of whom were dressed in white T-shirts and blue Jeans, began their protest at the front of the Centennial Pavilion.
They were greeted by the presence of huge number of officers of the Liberia National Police, the Liberia Immigration Service and the Drug Enforcement Agency.
The Liberian civil war, one of the worst in Africa, led to the killing of some 250,000 people, from 1989-2013.
The protesters then marched peacefully through the principal streets of Monrovia to the United States Embassy where a three-man team was permitted into the premises.
“Having them ruling portrays that there will be no hope for the victim community and until they are brought to justice, this campaign will not end.”
“No matter who entrusted them with power or the case is, the idea is that we must justice for human rights violations committed during the war.”
Mr. Dempster explained that names were not indicated in the document because the record are there in the reports of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission,”
Asked about why the statements presented to the United States when it is a Liberian affairs, the secretary general of the Civil Society Platform on Human Rights pointed out that the United States and European Union contribute significantly to the Liberia national budget.
“We feel that they can have an impact on this government which seems reluctant for fear of the resurgence a new wave of conflict.
The Liberian civil war, which  began in 1990  and officially ended in 2003, caused the deaths of about 250,000 people, brought the country to failed state.
