A pro-grass root advocacy organization, the Solidarity and Trust for A New Day has endorsed request from several organizations to lead a nation-wide peaceful protest to demand end to police brutality, corruption and disrespect for rule of law in the country.
STAND’s National Chairman, Mulbah Morlu, said he will personally lead the protest until government can address a ten-count demand presented by several organizations.
Addressing a press conference shortly after the presentation of the ten-count demand, Chairman Morlu sent a strong message for President Joseph Boakai to begin addressing the issue on the harassment of petty traders by the Monrovia City Police, the stoppage of bike riders from the restriction zones and dismissal of the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police and his Deputy for Operation.
Mr. Morlu cautioned the police and the Justice Ministry against blocking the protesters because the process will be peaceful and nonviolence.
The STAND’s Chairman also encouraged the people not to be afraid of the police because not even President Boakai, war tank, and automatic raffle can stop the people in demand of their rights.
Meanwhile, the Solidarity and Trust for A New Day has also sent warning to the entire bench of the Supreme Court of Liberia on manner in which it handles the case involving the majority and minority blocs of the House of Representatives.
Chairman Morlu warned the Supreme Court listening to interferences from the executive branch and be a court that respects and interprets the truth based on the Liberian Constitution
Earlier, several organizations representing the petty traders, motorcyclists, street vendors, civil servants among others presented a ten-count petition to STAND declaring July 17 as the day of a nation-wide protest.
The petitioners among other things, called for the dismissal of police Inspector General and his Deputy for Operations, a halt to police brutality, increase in government employees’ salaries, the restoration of the rule of law, abolition of corruption, and independence of the Supreme Court.
