The former ruling CDC has announced the expulsion of its Vice Chairman and deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Thomas from the party.
Fallah, who is Lofa County Representative, was earlier suspended for leading a group of lawmakers referred to as the “majority bloc” to stage the ousting of House Speaker, Cllr. Fonati Koffa, who is a fellow CDC partisan, a move the Deputy Speaker described at the time as “illegal”.
But the on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 the CDC said the party’s National Executive Committee has decided to expel Fallah from the main opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) of former President George Manneh Weah.
In justifying the expulsion, CDC’s National Chairman, Janga Kowo stressed the party’s commitment to discipline and unity.
According to him, Deputy Speaker Fallah’s actions undermined the CDC’s foundational principles and betrayed party loyalty, a claimed Rep. Fallah has categorically denied though he has welcomed his expulsion.
The CDC remains committed to ensuring discipline within its ranks, particularly in the Legislative Branch,” Mr. Kowo said.
Meanwhile, the CDC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) has also issued a seven-day ultimatum for other suspended CDC lawmakers to recommit to the party or face permanent expulsion.
The party reaffirmed its recognition of Speaker Koffa as the legitimate Speaker of the 55th Legislature, describing the anti-Koffa bloc’s election of Montserrado County District # 11 Rep. Richard Koon as Speaker as ‘an illegitimate act’ allegedly orchestrated by the opposition Unity Party.
But the ruling UP has repeatedly denied claims that it has orchestrated the operation to remove Speaker Koffa.
