Charles Sirleaf re-arrested but released on Tuesday, as LD$16bn saga case resumes

The Criminal Court ‘A’ at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia earlier today (Tuesday, August 20, 2019) ordered the rearrest of former Deputy Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) Governor, Mr, Charles Sirleaf, son of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

The arrest order was issued when the trial of Sirleaf and other former CBL officials began, with Judge Roosevelt Willie presiding.

Those who were charged and indicted for the crime of Economic sabotage, Criminal Conspiracy and Criminal facilitation are Milton A. Weeks former executive bank governor,  Charles  E. Sirleaf Deputy Governor for Operations, Dorbor H. Hagba, director finance department, Richard H. Walker, Director for Operations and Joseph Dennis Director internal audit all of the Central Bank of Liberia.

Their charges of economic sabotage charges have been modified and the men have now been charged with money laundering for allegedly printing billions of Liberian dollars illegal during the former regime.

Mr. Sirleaf, who had been on bail for health reason, was briefly arrested but later released upon order of the Judge, Up to press time, it was not clear whether he’ll spend the night at the Monrovia Central Prison,

Mr. Sirleaf was recently granted bail due to poor health. and he and the other former CBL officials are charged with economic sabotage and other criminal charges for allegedly printing billion of excess Liberian dollar banknotes towards the end of the Ellen Sirleaf’s administration.

State prosecution in the missing 16 billoion saga has issued  the second indictment today with a charge of money laundery thereby re-arrest  the defendants in the CBL case until they can filed the appropriate bail bond. 
The re-arrest of the CBL officials were made after hearing their case when state prosecution issued the second indictment on them. 
The trial resumed on Tuesday after prosecution informed Court authority to gave them time to prepare their legal team to Peruse the document, as they were through another trial involving the Sable mining bribery case.
