5 Liberian Police Officers To Begin UN Peacekeeping Duties In South Sudan

Monrovia, Liberia- Five Liberian police officer including females are off to South Sudena to begin United Nations peacekeeping duties shortly.

The Liberia National Police at the weekend (Friday August 25,2023), announced that it will shortly be dispatching five of its Officer to South Sudan on the UN peace keeping Mission.

Making the disclosure, police Inspector General Patrick Sudue said, selection of the five officers were based on merits through many tests conducted.

The five officers are Assistant Commissioner for police (ACP) Aloysius P.B. Mingle, Commissioner Inspector of police (ICP) Fred M. Freeman II, Inspector Comfort W. Dennis, Patrolman Diana D. W. Kayo and Alice M. Feteku.

IG Sudue said the many tests conducted at the police academy for nearly a month, if you fail in one, you can’t be eligible for the mission.

The head of the LNP Sudue revealed that when the LNP began sending officers on the UN peace keeping mission under his leadership, it was like a dream to him because his team at the LNP used to asked when will they go for UN peace keeping Mission after they have done many training under the UN but he used to respond to them and say at the appropriate time, they could on the mission.

He said this dream came to realization when he visited New York and held talk with some authorities of UN security sector especially when he mentioned about the then most talk about June 7,2019 protest organized by radio talk show host Mr. Henry Costa and some opposition figures.

LNP boss indicated that the UN authorities of the security sector were really impressed in the manner in which they handled the protest by interacting and even giving waters to the protesters without any arrest and casualties.

Following his discussion with the UN security sector authorities, he was told upon his return home, he should a make a request to that discussion which he did and the first batch of officers were dispatched where they spent a year and returned to Liberia and some of those officers are making significant mark within the LNP.

“I urged you officers who were selected for this peace keeping Mission to be vigilant and go by every instructions given you “.

As you go upon executing your respective duties, you are representing the LNP and Liberia at large and mentioned that some of those who perform their duties excellently got a positive recommendation within the UN the LNP boss added.

“Do not leave your teammates and go about walking alone because the place you are going, is a hostile terrain and please watch out for each other and be your brother’s keeper “ IG Sudue admonished the officers.

IG Sudue appointed U-125 as head of the team and Inspector Comfort W. Dennis as deputy head of the team.

As for his part, police 102 for operations Melvin Sackor said that he was grateful to see females being part of the team which means they are actualizing gender mainstreaming at the LNP.

The police 102 added that those selected officers are representing the LNP as an institution and the Republic of Liberia because whether negative or positive image, it will reflect on the LNP and Liberia at large.

He said duty, loyalty and discipline is the guide that are expected from the officers and called them to pay attention to details and work as team and they should be there for each other adding they should always check on each other despite they might be assigned to the same terrain.

One of the officers who was part of the first batch Anthony Bleh shared his experience with his fellow officers that they should always check their emails because it’s through that means they can be informed.

Officer Bleh told them that the terrain is challenging and upon their arrival, the South Sudan authorities will have an introduction ceremony for them where they will be taught the rules and regulations of their country and they will be learning course online and at the end, they will end certificates for themselves he concluded.
