This is exciting news for Liberia and the Scrabble community! Hosting the African Scrabble Championship in 2026 is a significant achievement, showcasing the country’s growing prominence in this sport.

The announcement by Lester Dgian Morris, President of the National Scrabble Association of Liberia, highlights the dedication and progress of the association in promoting Scrabble.

The recent National Scrabble Competition in Kakata, Margibi County, seems to have been a great success, with Joseph Gegeh emerging as the champion with an impressive 22 wins out of 27 games. Malek Sirleaf also demonstrated consistency by securing the runner-up position.

The 2026 African Scrabble Competition will mark the 16th edition of the Scabble Championship that is expected to be in October 2026 will be held at the prestigious Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex Conference Centre.

The most recent African Scrabble Championship, the 15th edition, was held in Kigali, Rwanda [26 October-to-2 November 2024], and was won by a Nigerian Oluwatimilehin Doko.
