The First Lady of Liberia, Madam Clar Weah has urged fishermen and fish mongers to be patient with the Coalition for Democratic Change government as it has plans to improve their livelihood.
Mrs.Weah was speaking in Monrovia on Monday, when she inducted officials of the Collaborative Management Association (CMA), comprising members of the nine fishing communities in Montserrado and Bomi counties.
The Liberian First Lady said the CDC government’s plans through the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority NaFAA are to improve the livelihood of fishermen and fish mongers across the nine coastal counties of Liberia, according to a press release from NaFAA.
The fishermen and fish mongers in the town hall in the borough of New Kru Town popo beach, west point, Bernard beach, banjor beach, king gray beach, kporkor beach and Bomi County.
Mrs. Weah told the crowd, who gave her a rousing welcome, that she was “delighted to be among a group Liberians who are bent on contribution to the economic development of their country”.
“You the fishermen and fish mongers or fish sellers of the fishing communities in Bomi and Montserrado counties do have the support of the government of Liberia and this is the time for all of you to exercise patience as the government roll out its plans for the fisheries sector,” the First Lady said.
Mrs. Weah was named and honored by the people of the borough of new kru town through their Governor Alice Weah as, “Decontee”, meaning “every first thing has time.“
She said it is time for the women of Liberia particularly fish mongers or sellers to receive benefits from their government headed by their son, president George mannah weah who has over the year sacrificed for Liberians.
The Liberian First Lady who was over joy over the warn reception from the fishermen and fish mongers of Bomi and Montserrado county promised to work in the interest of all Liberian women to ensure an improvement in their respective lives.
Mrs. Clar Decontee Weah pointed out that now is the time that they ensure proficiency in the execution their duties for the overall improvement and success of the fisheries sector.
At the same time, the Liberian First Lady has commended the leadership of the national fisheries and aquaculture authority for the level of improvement in the fisheries sector which has brought huge economic gains and has contributed to development across the country.
Those inducted into office include p. Nyantee Sleh president, d. Nimely Fannieh vice president, James J. Logan general secretary, Abraham B. Warkies financial secretary Naji Sonnie treasure and Annie doe chaplain.
Speaking on behave of his colleagues following their induction, the president P. Nyantee Sleh commended the CDC-led government for the level of attention given the fisheries sector which according to him has restored the dignity of fishermen and fish mongers in Montserrado and Bomi counties.
Mr. Sleh asserted that “since the foundation of the Liberian nation, no government has given the high level of attention to fishermen and fish mongers whose contributions has had impact on the Liberian economy.”
The Collaborative Management Association president said no that they are receiving huge support from the government through the leadership of NaFAA that they are willing and ready to work toward the improvement of the fisheries sector.
