BUCHANAN, Liberia- A tragic incident has left a two-year-old boy identified as Yarbah Goonah dead and severely wounded two others after a tree fell on them.

The incident reportedly happened in Gbootro Town behind the Camphor Mission, while they were going back home from a nearby town on Friday, August 27, 2021..

The victim’s mother, Ruth Payegar and the deceased oldest sister, Markpah Goonah were on their way from Kpehpue Town to Gbootro Town at their residence in Dorzohn.

According to Eyewitnesses, the terrible accident happened after a resident of the area Abraham Trokondeh used a gas-powered chainsaw to cut a large trees limb and after cutting it halfway, it began to fall and hit Madam Ruth Payegar and her kids on the main road while returning home.

Those who gathered on the scene told our reporter that Madam Payegar and her kids were walking along the main road where Abraham Trokondeh had gone to cut trees for timber production.

The scene was not too far from the road, when the fallen tree came in their direction, falling on top of them unexpectedly, killing them instantly and leaving the two others seriously injured.

They explained that Ruth Payegar’s two-year-old son, Yarbah Goonah fell on his back, which led to his immediate death.

But the power-saw operator fled the scene for fear of being attacked by angry mob.

Residents of the area expressed regrets and described the incident as painful and sorrowful.

They said it was unbearable for a struggling family of three to have experienced such a tragic situation.

The deceased parents have lived in Gbootro Town for several years.

Madam Ruth Payegar and her daughter ,Markpah Goonah were later rushed to the  Liberian Government Hospital in Buchanan, where they are presently undergoing medical treatment.

The late Yarbah Goonah has since been laid to rest by elders and family members of Gbootro Town.

The death of little Yarbah Goonah has brought to number three individuals who have died and been severely wounded recently from fallen tree incidents in Grand Bassa County.
