The Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) has embarked on a week-long series of trainings on civil education, participatory democracy and  sustainable development programs in four counties.

LCC’s General Secretary, Reverend Christopher Toe, disclosed that the training will be conducted four sub-political regions including Grand Bassa, Margibi, Bong and Nimba Counties.

Addressing a press conference shortly before his departure for the hinterland, Rev. Toe disclosed that the local officers of its sustainable development program will be inducted after the training program.

According to him, the training and induction of staffers of its sustainable development programs is a part of the three-year funded by its international partner, the Bread for Life.

The LCC General Secretary maintained that the first venue of the training will in Grand Bassa County, to be followed by Margibi, Bong and will end in Nimba County.

The training of the citizens on sustainable development goals and civil education comes against the background of the holding of presidential and legislative elections in 2023.

The Liberia Council of Churches, working along with its counterpart, the National Muslim Council of Liberia, gained the enviable reputation over the years for helping to maintain the fragile peace in the nation, after 14 years of bloody civil war where over 250,000 people were killed.

Many hope that the Council of Churches and the National Muslim Council will help to ensure a violence free presidential and legislative elections in 2023.

Some political pundits say it is difficult to know what the future holds in a country, where youths mostly under the influence of drug are easily manipulated by some politicians.
