NEC Declares Him Winner With 51.43%

FLASHBACK: Rep. Kogar being blessed by Sen. Prince Y. Johnson, who was also a Christian cleric before his death

The National Elections Commission (NEC) on Thursday, April 24, 2025 declared Nimba County District #5 Representative Samuel Kogar of the ruling UP-backed MDR as winner of the April 22 Senatorial By-election, with independent candidate Eddith Gongloe-Weh coming second.

Rep. Kogar will now complete the remaining eight years of the late Sen. Johnson’s 9-year term.

The election process was praised by election observers and NEC itself for being orderly and peaceful.
