“Majority Bloc” Speaker “Rejects” Supreme Court Ruling, Vows Not To Allow Koffa To Preside Over Plenary

(Last Updated On: )

Plenary shall never allow Koffa to preside over the House

The “majority bloc” Speaker, Richard Nagbe Koon has vowed not to respect the Supreme Court’s final ruling which affirmed the Bill of Information filed by embattled House Speaker, Cllr. Fonati Koffa by affirming that Koffa is the legitimate and constitutional Speaker.

In a statement issued shortly at the Court’s ruling on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Koon, Montserrado County District # 11 said it “rejects in the strongest term the judgement of the supreme court that Fonati Koffa continues to be Speaker of the House of Representative even though he was removed from that office by a Resolution signed by fifty (50) members of the House of Representative in full compliance with Article 29 of the constitution…”

The statement continues: “No opinion or judgement of the Supreme Court can or will expunge or erase this resolution from the annals of the House of Representatives.”

Rep. Koon also said that the House plenary shall never allow Koffa to preside over the House

Meanwhile, Koon and his “majority bloc” have left opened to later pursue legal action. But in Liberia, the Supreme Court is the final arbiter of justice and its judgement cannot be appealed. One legal option, Koon may be alluding to is the ECOWAS Court of Justice based in Abuja, Nigeria.
