Liberian Senate Resumes Session With 2024 Draft National Budget Up For Debate

The Liberian Senate today, Tuesday, October 17, 2023 resumed the final Segment of the 6th Season of the 54th Legislature, with Senate President Pro-tempore, Albert Chie announcing that a proposed Agenda to be considered by his colleagues.

Addressing the opening Session in the Chambers of the Liberian Senate, Pro-tempore Albert Chie named the receipt and discussion of the draft 2024 National Budget, monitoring and the implementation of the recently passed drug law, reviewing of programs for the rehabilitation of drugs affected-persons and the discussion of the Public Health Law formed part of the Agenda for the Session.

Fifteen seats in the 30-member Senate are up for grabs, as scores of candidates from the 15 counties are being contested for in the October 10 election.

According to a Senate Press Release, also forming pat of the Agenda for the last Segment of the 6th Session of the 54th Legislature are the ratification of few incentives Agreements as well as the convening of the first Session of the 55 Legislature, amongst others.

Meanwhile, the Liberian Senate Pro-tempore had joined his fellows Citizens and members of the I international Community who have been stressing the necessity for advocating for a transparent, free, fair and violent- free elections process including the outcome at the end of each process.

At the same time, Senate Pro-tempore Chie also used the opportunity to re-iterate his confidence in the National Elections Commission thereby expressing his opinion th that the electoral body is handling the process very well despite some challenges faced by the August body.
