Liberian University students angry over CBL’s claims that no money millions

(Last Updated On: )

-SUP urges patriotic Liberians to “rise up and demand end to mass looting”

Liberia’s oldest student political party, the Student Unification Party (SUP) at the University of Liberia has said the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) claim that no money is missing “is irrationally abominable and inherently flawed”.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, SUP called on patriotic citizens across Liberia to rise up and demand an end to mass looting under ex-Soccer Legend George M. Weah

The state owned University students said sons and daughters of shantytowns, ghettos and hamlets, civil society actors, marketers, motorcyclists, taxi drivers, pen-pen riders, rock crushers, casual laborers, students, public school teachers, unionists, nurses, distinguished media practitioners, fellow Liberians throughout our landscape and abroad.

“The indomitable Vanguard Student Unification Party absolutely frowns on and strongly detest every attempt by the Weah-led government to manufacture new lies and loaded falsehood surrounding the mysterious vanishing of L$16 billion of the Liberian people’s money. This spree of falsification seems not to be working as Liberians remain bent on this matter,” the SUP statement said.

The evil pursuit on the part of this government to misrepresent the facts continues to backfire and undermine the progressive nature of any independent investigation that may be ongoing.

SUP vehemently refutes the latest press statement from the Central Bank of Liberia and calls for the immediate arrest of all Central Bank employees who have been barred from traveling out of the Country as a result of their link to this corruption scandal.

“It is grossly unfortunate that functionaries of this government will be giving conflicting accounts on this matter. The government must abort its disingenuous plan of lying in broad-day light about this missing L$16 billion. Weah and his caravan of looters must account for the people’s money now. We will not entertain any further fabrication from Weah’s newborn cartel of pro-poor crooks and leeching pillagers,” the University of Liberia student political party said.

SUP as one of the leading members of the Concerned Citizens United to Bring Our Money Back (COCUBOMB) is consolidating its revolutionary base of conscious militants and ideological stalwarts to join effort with patriotic forces in demanding the full restitution of the missing billions. Those who diverted and siphoned public resources MUST account and be prosecuted without any delay.

In the opinion of SUP, the press release issued by the Central Bank of Liberia that no money is missing can better be termed as a sarcastic drama of fantasy that is tied to inherent contradictions and flaws. This broad-day lie is about to provoke public discontent nationwide. We call on all militants and stalwarts to begin mass mobilization for an unannounced massive protest across the country that will be announced by COCUBOMB anytime soon.

The Party wants to reemphasize the urgency for the International Community to ensure an independent international forensic investigation into to this national mystery that may have unintended socio-economic, political and security consequences if not handled with caution. SUP calls on this government to immediately recuse itself from any ongoing investigation.

The statement from President Weah upon his arrival from UNGA has even undermined the veracity of the investigation. The countless number of loaded contradictions have rendered this government inconsistent, dishonest and non-credible. In order to confirm what the President said on Sunday, Central Bank Governor Nathaniel Partray has told Liberians that there is no missing money even though investigation is ongoing.

SUP remains concerned about the poor and dejecting living condition of all Liberians especially the masses. The money in question that has been diverted and stolen could contribute to the upliftment of Liberia and Liberians. SUP will not accept any further excuse or futile justification meant to distort the hard facts.

The Vanguard Party’s attention has been drawn to continuous threats on the life of its Secretary General Martin K. N. Kollie and other campaigners of the Bring Back Our Money Campaign. Such threats are direct attack on press freedom and free speech. We condemn it in the highest form and call for the full security of Cde. Kollie and others. The government of President Weah will be held liable if anything happens to Cde. Kollie and other campaigners.

We have also learned that the government is pressurizing the authorities of the University of Liberia to arbitrarily expel comrade Martin Kollie for reasons unknown and unjustified. SUP and the mass of university students will resist in all forms any attempt by GoL and UL to hatch this devilish plot. Cde. Kollie has done nothing wrong to be targeted in such manners. Those who stole the money must be the real targets.

SUP wants to congratulate all peaceful protesters that turned out en masse for the September 24, 2018 protest. What you did was a true demonstration of your unhindered patriotism and loyalty to our country. Henceforth, SUP reiterates its mandate for thousands of its militants and sympathizers to get fully involved with the Bring Back Our Campaign.
