FISH TOWN, Liberia- In the southeastern county of River Gee, a local Commissioner in River-Gbeh has reportedly died under mysterious circumstances.
Mr. Shade Barchea, who is believed to be in his late 40s has died mysteriously at a fishing site in the area.
The incident occurred on April 8, 2021, after he went fishing in the Gbeh River and felt something pulling his legs under the water. His son, who was with him, managed to help him and removed him from the water after he encounter the problem, but he went unconscious. But he later died.
However, after his removal from the water by his son, he decided to cry for help but to no avail. So, the Commissioner told his son to go to the town and call other people to help but upon their arrival, his father’s condition became worse and he was rushed to the Fish Town referral hospital, but was later pronounced dead.
According to residents of the area, this is the third time that a citizen has lost his life in such a manner.
This latest incident has led several residents to wonder as to what is causing such mysterious deaths from the Gbeh River.
Mr. Barchea was appointed as township commissioner by President Weah in 2018 and he is expected to be buried on April 17, 2021.
