HARPER, Liberia- The City Mayor of Pleebo in Liberia’s Southeastern Maryland County has given justification for shutting down the local community radio in the area recently.

Mayor Wellington Kyne said the “Voice of Pleebo 93. 5 FM was shut down because he claimed the radio management showed “disrespect” towards authority.

In an interview with Reporters, the Pleebo City Mayor said the radio station was shocked down based on what he called disrespect from the Radio Management towards the Authority.

“I have locked Voice of Pleebo radio station because the management of the radio station refused to accept or work with the board that I have appointed recently to control the affairs of the radio station on a daily basis,” Mayor Kyne boasted.

Liberia’s Information Minister Ledgerhood Rennie recently ordered the reopening of the community radio, as the government launches a probe into the action of the local official.

Voice of Pleebo Manager Michael Wroh told the GNN that the management has said nothing against the local officials that was negative and might have shown disrespect to the city authority.

“I am the Manager of Voice of Pleebo 93.5fM and my staffers were asked by the City Authority to stop two Programs” Talk With Anthony Williams and The Gospel Hour” from running on the radio,” the station’s Manager said.

Mr. Wroye disclosed that Voice of Pleebo radio has never been supported by the County Authority since the Weah led government.

“Since this city Authority took over, the community radio station has not received any support from the City Cooperation. I am using this opportunity to call on the Press Union of Liberia and civil society organizations to probe into the issue.

Voice of Pleebo Radio is the oldest community radio in Pleebo district,, Maryland County.
