BUCHANAN, Liberia- A 20-year-old man is reported missing in Grand Bassa County, after a canoe capsized in the Benson River in Jecko Town community in Buchanan.

The man, who went missing on 1st September 2021 after the canoe capsized, is a fisherman and bread winner of his family who depends on fishing activities for daily survival.

Eyewitnesses told www.newspublictrust.com, that that Larry Saywrayne and three of his friends, whose names were not given, went to the upper part of Benson River to look for crab when the canoe capsized.

The local community dwellers, who could not hold back their tears, said that since the incident on Wednesday afternoon September 1, 2021 at about 2pm, he’s yet to be found alive or dead in the river.

They noted that the other three persons made their way out of the river and quickly reported the incident to the missing man’s family, but could not establish whether he’s alive or dead.

The friends told the grieving family and community residents that Larry Saywrayne could not swim when the canoe capsized and there was nobody immediately to rescue him, noting that this may have apparently resulted in his drowning accidentally.

Due to the situation, the community residents carried out a search from the afternoon to the evening hours in the water but could not find the living or dead body of Larry Saywrayne up to present.

All of those who went to search for the missing man barely 30 minutes after the capsizing of the canoe returned in tears, after failing to locate the man.

However, the family members and friends promised to continue the search until the living or dead body of Larry Saywrayne is found.
