Maryland woman, 25 let off the hook in Murder/Negligent Homicide case

HARPER, Liberia-The Fourth Judicial Circuit Court in Harper, Maryland County, in the South East of this country has dismissed and dropped murder and negligent homicide charges against defendant Janet Toe, age 25 of Scott Ville, Pleebo City Scott Ville.

Ms. Janet Toe was Charged for Murder and Negligent Homicide  and was   forwarded  to  Court for prosecution in April this year by the Liberia National Police detachment in Pleebo, Sodoken District, over 732 kilometers from Monrovia.

According to Judge Nelson T. Tokpa, Resident Circuit Judge of the Fourth Judicial Circuit of Maryland, The Grand Jury of Maryland County, sitting in the May A.D term of Court indicted defendant Janet Toe on 14 counts for the Commission of  the Crimes Murder, Negligent Homicide  in  the Scottville Community  of Pleebo City, Maryland County.

According to the indictment, defendant Janet Toe Voluntarily, Purposely and intentionally Committed the Crimes of   Murder, Negligent Homicide   when she deliberately carried her boyfriend Victim Victor Quire in her bedroom; and after having sexual intercourse, the Victim said that he was helpless and she rolled him to rest on the bed, about an hour’s time   in bed the Victim died.

She alone allegedly dragged him the body out of the room about 45seconds distance away fifteen days later  Janet Toe Admitted to the occurrence of the Crimes when she was arrested during the preliminary investigation that the victim died in her room on Wednesday, April 9,2019 in Pleebo District.

On September 9 2019, the case was called for trial and the defendant pleaded not guilty of the crimes to the indictment.

The Defendant having joined issue with the state waived jury trial and requested the court for bench trial which request was granted by the Court. 

During the case Arguments the prosecution Council or the state produced six witnesses   who testified on behalf of the state including the Victim brother Emmanuel Quire.

Mr. Emmanuel Quire and five others testified in the Court that the body of the late Victor Quire body was found just about 45 seconds from the Defendant Janet Toe Resident in the Scottville Community of Pleebo City.

Victor Quire died in the bed room of Janet Toe in Scottville.

Emmanuel Quire testified that he returned from Monrovia on April 6, 2019 to find out from the police and family members whether there was any suspect arrested in Connection with his brother death .Police and CID investigation gather that the Victim Victor Quire died in Janet Toe room in Scottville after having Sexual intercourse.

The Persecution Council failed to provide evident that could sent the defendant to jail this lead the Court to drop charges and dismiss the case.

Judge Tokpa Immediately order the Clarke of Court to issue the writ of Release for the Janet Toe who was kept behind bars at the Harper Central Prison for five months plus while the case was ongoing at the Fourth Judicial Circuit Court.

The Persecution Council head by Attorney Philip Weagar promised to make use of the laws of the Republic of Liberia and take serious Exception.

Speaking to the news public trust news Maryland County Correspondent, Janet Toe thanks the Almighty God for proven her Innocents in the alleged Murder and Negligent Homicide of her Former Love one, the late Victor Quire.

She admitted that she alone out of fear dragged the Victim’s body from her bedroom about 45 seconds away from her house and put his slipper in the latrine. “What I never wanted was what happened but I was not the want that kill him, he died from natural cause.

“I want to tell people who posted my images on the Social media alert Facebook calling Me Murderer today I’ m set free because God has proven my Innocents and I’m happy to reunite with my family after six months of stay at the prison facility,” Janet said.    

Ms. Janet Toe used the occasion to extend her heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the office of the Public Defence represented by Attorney Joshua D.K Oduwi for his outstanding performance during the case.
