Police in Liberia are investigation an attack on the facilities of a popular private run radio station in the capital, Monrovia, OK Fm by armed men over the weekend.

According to a report from the station sent to www.newspublictrust.com, “the compound of OK FM-Liberia was early Saturday morning ransacked by unknown armed-men.”

The report quotes the private security officers hired by the station, who were on guard that, “eight individuals reportedly jumped over the fence which shields the building from outside forces and made their way to the main entrance of the building.

The motive of the armed attackers is not known.

But the security officers on duty “claimed that they were placed under gun-point by the unknown armed men following their entry into the fence,” the OK FM report says.

“Officers Junior Johnson and Dio Neuville in separate testimonies said they were beaten by the robbers but managed to raise an alarm which subsequently led to the arm-men escaping the same.”

“They claimed, the situation is not the first time and as such there’s a need that the Liberia National Police increase its night patrol around the station area,” the report says.

Saturday’s attack on this station led to damage of the main gate to the station’s Lynch Street compound in central Monrovia.

On Monday, welders were seen repairing the damaged gate.

Earlier this year, one of OK FM’s senior Journalist, Zenu Millar died after being allegedly flogged by officers of the presidential elite force, the Executive Protective Service (EPS) at the SKD national stadium outside Monrovia.

Circumstances surrounding his alleged maltreatment is yet to be established or investigated.
