Weah completes 4 out of 85 campaign promises in 10 months-New report says

President George Weah has completed four out of the 85 campaign promises to the Liberian people, with the average grade point of 8.1%, a new study says.

The survey was conducted by the National Youth Movement for Transparent Elections (NAYMOTE).

The title of the 24-page survey report is: “Promises Made, Promises Kept?”

NAYMOTE’S Executive Director, Eddie Jawolo said that the survey revealed that President Weah has completed the payment of the fees of all students who sat the West African Examination Council in 2017.

Mr. Jawolo told a news conference in Monrovia recently that the president completed the renovation of the John F. Kennedy Hospital, ensure the passage of the land rights and the reduction of salaries for public officials under the executive branch of government.

“The remaining 81 promises, 28 are rated as on-going, 38 as not started and 15 as not rated,” he told the press.

NAYMOTE’s study graded the performance of the government in percentage terms on 15 sector, including education with 15%, infrastructural, 14%, health, nine percent and the economy, 14%.

Others are agriculture and forestry 8%, accountability 5%, transportation 1% and justice and human rights 6%.

The rest are youth empowerment, percent; security and defense 3%, foreign policy and diplomatic relations 6%, physically challenged and senior citizens 6%.

 As for gender equality 4%, reconciliation 2% and decentralization of institutions 5%.

According to the NAYMOTE Executive Director, the 28 declared as on-going projects were initiatives of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s government.

The survey report said the deployment of soldiers of the Armed Forces of Liberia on peacekeeping mission in Mali, advocating against gender based violence and the promotion of girls’ rights and strengthening of emergency preparedness to prevent diseases.

According to the NAYMOTE Director, the report is intended to encourage the president to work harder to ensure that he meets up with campaign promises.
