Ahead of President George Weah’s State of the Nation Address slated for today (January 25, 2020 @ 4Pm GMT), a Liberian Christian cleric has been calling on the Liberian leader to sack all underperforming officials in his 3-year-old government.
President Weah, who took office on January 22, 2018, will be delivering his 4th annual message to the joint session of the 54th Legislature at the Capitol Building in Monrovia on Monday in line with Article 58 of the Liberian constitution.
Article 58 sys: “The President shall, on the fourth working Monday in January of each year, present the administration’s legislative program for the ensuing session, and shall once a year report to the Legislature on the state of the Republic. In presenting the economic condition of the Republic the report shall cover expenditure as well as income.”
Some of President Weah’s officials have been blamed for his administration’s failure to create more employment for the staggering youthful population, improve the economy and deliver on some of his many promises.
The Director General of Education Watch Network of Liberia, Rev. Andrew S. Fayiah wants President Weah to change Ministers and other officials that have been poorly performing and those that don’t have the necessary qualification in his administration.
“You cannot put people who are not administrators and put them in an administraton and expect them to function properly, people school be place in there rightful positions at the ministry, the Liberian cleric said.
Rev. Fayiah observed that most of the ministers and directors are misplaced in government something he said is ubdernmine the work of government making specific reference to the Ministry of Education.
According to him, the time is now to replace individuals that are underperforming and bring on board those who are willing, committed, and ready to lead, must come on board particularly at the Ministry of education.
“I believe that many individuals at the ministry of education are misplace, now the president should review their qualification and experience or work done over the years and replace if necessary or maintain them when necessary,” he said.
Speaking ahead of the President’s SONA to this Reporter, Rev. Fayiah cited the President’s recent visit to MCSS schools in Monrovia, calling the Liberian leader to extend his visitations to government ministries and agencies intended to establish challenges face these Instructions across Liberia not only schools.
Commenting on 2021 academic year, Rev. Fayiah observed that there is drastike low enrollment due to financial situation and government tuition program for Public Schools across Libraria.
According to sourcees, Primary division in Public Schools are to pay one thousand Liberia dollars, Junior high division two thousand Liberia while senior high division is three thousand Liberia dollars.
Rev. Fayiah who is also a School administrator want government to abandon its tuition fees for public schools to enable parents sent their children to school.
“I am calling on private schools authority to also collaborate with parents and have some consideration of payment plan for fees of their children” he noted.
The Liberian educator however commended President Weah for his recent visit to MCSS Schools in Monrovia.
Recently, the Liberian leader alone with Education Minister and the Superintendent of MCSS visited Schools under the Monrovia Consolidated School System or MCSS in Monrovia where President Weah expressed frustration over some debilitated structures that he tour.
“I want to in this Public manner congratulations the President for visit but I am also calling on the President to extend his visit to other schools across Liberia,” Rev. Andrew S Fayiah added.
