But Gongloe Youth Movement Takes Him To Task: “Deception And Rhetoric At The Highest Degree”

Nimba County Senator Jeremiah Koung, political leader of former Liberian warlord now Senator Prince Y. Johnson’s MDR party, has promised to set up a war crimes court, if he and former Vice President Joseph Boakai win the October 10 presidential election.
Mr. Koung made the promise in a radio interview in Monrovia earlier this week.
But the “Gongloe Youth Movement” (GYM) has termed as political deception at the highest degree, a statement from Unity Party Vice Presidential running mate Senator Jeremiah Kuoung committing to the establishment of the war and economic crimes court in Liberia.
The Gongloe Youth Movement is not a Youth Wing of the LPP of presidential aspirant, Cllr. Tiawan Gongloe. Rather, the group is said to be made of youthful volunteers from across the country that support the presidential bid Cllr. Gongloe based on what they say is his past record in public office and his agenda for Liberia.
In promising his support for the establishment of the war and economic crimes court in Liberia, Sen. Koung stated that he supports the court establishment on grounds that all Liberian that committed war crimes and crimes against humanity should account for their wrong.
But while expressing his support for the establishment of the court, Sen. Koung disagreed with what he claims is the “continue politicization of the court” by Liberians.
According to Sen. Koung, who is a close ally of Sen. Prince Johnson championed his selection by former Vice President Joseph Boakai, proponents of a war crimes court most of the time target a particular person, instead addressing the fundamentals problem.
“Prince Johnson, is a factor in the Liberian civil war. However, how can a man in person of Senator Jeremiah Koung who has been in the legislature for about ten years tells the Liberian people that he supports the establishment of the court when he has not record of him advocating for war crimes court. We just can’t believe Senator Koung.”
