The NPP has in recent time been engulfed in leadership crisis emanating from the reinstatement of members of the Party who left to contest the 2017 presidential and legislative election on the ticket of other parties.
The Executive Committee of the NPP at a recent meeting chaired by the Standard-Bearer of the party, Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor, voted unanimously to reinstate former party members, but the Chairman of the party James Biney refused to embrace the decision, claiming that it was illegal, a press release from VP Howard-Taylor’s office said.
During the meeting a motion on said decision was raised by partisan Kollie Kamara and seconded by Ballah Herbert and voted upon by all in attendance. Only five members out of 54 NEC Members were absent from the meeting including Chairman Biney.
The NPP, Liberia People’s Democratic Party (LPDP) and the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) joined forces in 2016 for the purpose of winning the 2017 presidential election.
The NPP produced the vice standard-bearer, Jewel Howard-Taylor, while the CDC produced the standard bearer, George Manneh Weah.
