Court lifts injunction on former ruling party, NPP

With immediate effect, the Civil Law Court at the Temple of Justice has lifted the preliminary injunction issued on all activities of the National Patriotic Party (NPP).

The Court on May 19, 2018 issued a preliminary injunction on all activities of the party based on a complaint filed by Bolton Dennis, a former executive of the NPP.

But the court following a motion to vacate said injunction, ordered the lifting of the injunction with all rights prior to the issuance of the write of preliminary injunction, restore.

The Order to vacate Preliminary Injunction under the signature of the Clerk of Court of the Civil Law court B’ in Montserrado Country reads: “You are thereby commanded to vacate the preliminary injunction placed on the above named respondent/defendants on Saturday, May 19,2018. You are further commanded to restore to the movants/Respondents their Rights prior to the write of preliminary injunction which was issued out of this court on 19th day of May AD. You are also commanded to make your official returns endorsed on the back of the original copy of this court’s order to vacate  the preliminary injunction as to the manner and form of its service and file same in my office immediately upon executive this court’s order.”

The NPP has   in recent time been engulfed in leadership crisis emanating from the reinstatement of members of the Party who left to contest the 2017 presidential and legislative election on the ticket of other parties.

The Executive Committee of the NPP at a recent meeting chaired by the Standard-Bearer of the party, Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor, voted unanimously to   reinstate former party members, but the Chairman of the party James Biney refused to embrace the decision, claiming that   it was illegal, a press release from VP Howard-Taylor’s office said.

During the meeting a motion on said decision was raised by partisan Kollie Kamara and seconded by Ballah Herbert and voted upon by all in attendance. Only five members out of 54 NEC Members were absent from the meeting including  Chairman Biney.

The NPP, Liberia People’s Democratic Party (LPDP) and the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) joined forces in 2016 for the purpose of winning the 2017 presidential election.

The NPP produced the vice standard-bearer, Jewel Howard-Taylor, while the CDC produced the standard bearer, George Manneh Weah.
