Official preliminary results continue to be released by the National Elections Commission (NEC) as tallying of votes continues after the Tuesday, October 10, 2023 presidential and legislative elections.

On Saturday, October 14, 2023, NEC Chairperson, Davidetta Browne Lansanah announced the fourth batch of presidential preliminary result that saw incumbent President George Manneh Weah of the ruling CDC party in over his main rival, Joseph Boakai of the main opposition Unity Party (UP) collecting 44.58%-43.1%.

NEC says this represents 49.8% of the votes received from 2,933 of the 5,890 polling places across the country as at 5:15 Pm GMT pm on Saturday. Following third and fourth are Lusinee Kamara of the All Liberian Coalition Party (ALCOP) and Albert Edward Appleton of the Grassroots Democratic Party (GDM) with 2.08% and 1.96% respectively.  In the third batch of progressive results released by NEC on Friday, October 13, 2023, the CDC presidential candidate was at 44.56% while UP’s Boakai was at 42.68%. from 1,527 of the 5,980 polling places. National Elections Commission – Results Portal (necliberia.org)

Weah is being challenged by 19 other presidential contenders, one of whom, Cllr. Tiawan Gongloe of the opposition Liberia People’s Party (LPP) last week conceded defeat.

Two of the presidential candidates are females—Sarah Beysolow Nyanti of the African Liberation League (ALL) and Bendu Kromah, INDEPENDENT.

This is the fourth general elections held in post-war Liberia since this West African state officially ended 14 years of civil war in 2003. There are 46 registered political parties with over 2.4 million registered voters.

President Weah is making his second term bid after being in power for nearly six years since defeating his main rival, former Vice President Boakai in the October 2017 election.
