80-Year-Old Rev. Daniel Powell Cries Out Housing And Financial Support To The Elderly Across Liberia

In a heartfelt appeal, 80-year-old Rev. Daniel W. A.  Powell, a steadfast supporter of President Joseph Boakai, has urged the government to establish fifteen dedicated compounds for senior citizens in every county across Liberia.

President Boakai himself turned 83 years ago late last year.

Since endorsing Boakai’s presidential candidacy on January 1, 2022, Rev. Powell told this Reporter that he has remained an ardent supporter, advocating for initiatives to improve the lives of elderly citizens in Liberia.

In an open letter to President Boakai, Rev. Powell proposed the creation of the Liberia Senior Citizens Rescue Alliance Compound, which would comprise five aesthetically designed low-cost housing units.

He also emphasized the importance of incorporating a Rescue Academy for Intellectually Gifted Children within each compound, aiming to provide both shelter and educational opportunities.

Rev. Powell’s plea extended beyond housing; he appealed for financial assistance from the President and other officials to support his living expenses during his later years, stating that such help would facilitate a smoother transition as he approaches retirement by God almighty.

Throughout his distinguished career, Rev. Powell has held various prominent roles, including former classroom teacher, legislator, and Assistant Minister for Administration in the Internal Affairs Ministry.

He also served as Deputy Transport Minister in the Interim Government of National Unity and was a key member of the delegation to ECOWAS peace conferences in Liberia championing the Unity Party’s campaign for JNB’s presidential victory.

As Rev. Powell continues to advocate for the welfare of Liberia’s senior citizens, his call to action serves as a reminder of the vital need for resources and support for the nation’s elderly population.
