The roller coaster ride in the relations between vocal talk show host-turned active politician, Henry Costa and former Liberian Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, Standard Bearer of the main opposition Unity Party (UP) has taken another nose dive.
Mr. Costa of the opposition All Liberian Party (ALP) claims he was subjected to “painful betrayal” by Boakai in the recent political collaboration ahead of the October 10 presidential and legislative election, Costa told a news conference in Monrovia today, Monday, July 10, 2023.
But former VP Boakai was quick to react to Costa’s claim Boakai by saying he was willing to work with him.
The UP Standard Bearer said on Facebook that: “Henry P. Costa is my son, and I hold nothing against him. I forgive him, and I am always willing to work with every well-meaning Liberian to accomplish our mission to rescue Liberia. I would advise all to focus our attention on the mission to remove the nightmare we have presiding over our country. Let’s Think Liberia, Love Liberia, and Build Liberia.”
Many weeks ago, there were reports of Costa being tipped to become running mate of the UP political leader, but that didn’t happen.
Back in 2017 before the first round of presidential election, Cost said Boakai was not fit to run for president of Liberia because he was too old and ill, infamously describing the then Liberian VP as “dead man walking”.
But the same vocal talk show host later changed his tongue and announced his full support for Boakai as that wise old man and politician who can rescue the Liberian nation from the bad governance of President George Weah and his CDC government.
The vocal political commentator told Journalists that he was shocked that former Vice President and presidential hopeful of the main opposition Unity Party (UP) Joseph Boakai could betray him.
The political commentator and vocal talk show host accused his former political ally, Boakai of “painful betrayal”.
Costa, a nephew of opposition ALP political leader and top Liberian businessman, Benoni Urey, revealed that their All Liberian Party (ALP) which was in partnership with the UP, has broken away from the former ruling party but did not say who his party will be supporting.
“It was not the ALP or Costa that betrayed the UP but it is the UP that betrayed us. Boakai and the UP have stopped talking to us for a long time.”
