Liberia’s application for the COVID-19 vaccine has been accepted by the GAVI Alliance – (a global health partnership of private and public institutions dedicated to immunization for all.
Making the disclosure Tuesday, the Manager of Expanded Immunization program at the Health Ministry Adolphus Clarke said now that Liberia has been accepted by the global health body, modalities are being worked out to ensure that the country benefits from the vaccine.
“The acceptance of Liberia for the vaccine is a boost for the country’s health sector”, Mr. Clark said when he spoke to the national broadcaster.
He did not disclose when the vaccine will arrive, but expressed optimism that it will minimize infections in the country and the world at large.
“Our application was signed and submitted December 16 and we were certified as a country. All that we are doing now is preparatory work to ensure that before the vaccine arrives, we have all that it takes to administer it and we are able to meet the necessary demand.
He said COVID-19 came with lots of misinformation which they are endeavoring to counter by providing the right information
He said they look forward to joining other countries of the world that have started the administration of the COVID vaccine as a public health measure.
Loser in Bomi Senatorial Election takes NEC to Supreme Court
The loser in the just ended senatorial election in Bomi County, former House Speaker Alex Tyler, has filed a petition with the Supreme Court against the National Elections Commission (NEC) for declaring Edwin Snowe winner
His legal team said NEC was in error to pronounce Snowe winner when the election was disputed and with case still before them (NEC) for determination.
The presiding justice in chamber has cited all parties to a conference Wednesday December 30 before reaching any conclusion on the matter.
