There has been no new death from the Coronavirus pandemic reported in Liberia in the past week, with the total number of deaths still standing at 82, from the most recent COVID-19 update released by NPHIL on August 16, 2020.
The National Public Health Institute’s stats of August 10, 2020 put the total number of deaths at the time at 81 with ten new recoveries.
Now the August 16, 2020 update announced one 1 new confirmed case, with an additional 8 new recoveries. According to NPHIL, more males have recovered than feamales.
So far, Liberia has recorded a total of 1, 277 confirmed cases across the 15 counties, with Montserrado County, where the capital Monrovia being the epicenter.
The stats show that so far 519 males have recovered from the virus, while there has have been 284 recoveries.
“Data review/reclassification was done across the country, thus, increasing the cumulative recoveries,” the NPHIL Update says.
Liberia’s fight against the deadly virus has recently being marred by a controversy at NPHIL over reported breaches in the testing of COVID-19 cases.
Last weekend, the special presidential committee set up to probe the situation said evidence was included in the report of the committee that was presented to President George Manneh Weah on the reported breaches in the health and administrative protocols of the COVID-19 test results, by
Presenting the report to President George Manneh Weah at the weekend, the head of the special investigation committee, Dr. Linda Birch pointed out that the report was accompanied by evidence.
Dr. Birch is President of the Liberian Medical and Dental Council.
And her committee was charged with the responsibility of finding out whether there have been systemic breaches in the reporting procedure of COVID-19 results… and recommend actions to be taken in order to remedy the situation.
The Liberian leader thanked Dr. Birch and the entire committee for carrying out the task.
Receiving the report in Monrovia on Friday, President Weah promised to go through it keenly.
An Executive Mansion press release says the President said he will do what is best, as the health and welfare of Liberians and residents alike remain paramount.
Last week, President Weah suspended the Director General of NPHIL, Dr. Mosoka Fallah for time indefinite, when the Liberian leader announced the setting up of the special investigation committee.
