Free Pentecostal College in Lofa expands academic program

-Introduces three more Departments

Voinjama, Liberia – The Free Pentecostal College in Voinjama, Liberia’s northwestern Lofa County has introduced three additional departments at the institution.

The Church-run institution of higher learning, which stablished in 1987, recently added the Momo T. Cyrus Program of Criminal Justice, Mass communication Program and the department of Agriculture. The three departments fall under the College of Business and Liberal Arts at Lofa County’s oldest institution of higher learning.

Serving as chief launcher at the ceremony, the CEO and General Manager of the Security Expert Guard of Liberia (SEGAL) in whose honor the Criminal Justice Program is named, described that establishment of the department time considering the increase in crimes rate across Lofa County.

Mr. Momo T. Cyrus indicated that the opening of such program at the college will also encourage youth people of the county who are mostly dominate interims of perpetrating crimes to pursuit the course, thereby reducing crimes rate not only in the county but the country at large.

He further challenged the young people of the county to take advantage of the departments noting that the three departs introduced would be great help to society.

The Liberian private security executive called on central government to provide subsidies to private school including the free Pentecostal college which is besides the Zion University currently provides Criminal Justice in the Country.

According to him if Liberia most be fully secured, than government will need to invest more resources into the Criminal Justice.

Mr. Cyrus disclosed that naming the department in his name is an honor that will forever by remembered and as such will also lobby with other Universities both in and outside of the county for possible collaboration with the Free Pentecostal College.

He also encouraged Lofans particularly the youth to take advantage of the Agriculture, Mass Communication and Criminal Justices introduced at the College.

“By doing this I strongly believe that Lofans will be prepared to make Lofa self sufficient, marketable and also regain its pre war status as “Bread Basket” of Liberia,” Mr. Cyrus added.

The SEGAL boss who has made several contributions to the institution over the years in closing presented a check of $2,500 USD as part of a $10,000 USD initial contribution towards the smooth running of the Criminal Justice Program at the institution with the balance to be paid over the next six months period based on what he called performance report.

Mr. Cyrus has provided jobs for over three thousand Liberians through his private Security Expert Guard of Liberia firm (SEGAL). He also disclosed the establishment of both a large farm and a world class hotel in the county with the armed of creating more jobs for Lofans and Liberians at large very soon.

Also launching the departments of Mass Communication on behave of the President of the Press union of Liberia, Mr. Charles B. Coffey Jr, PUL Lofa County Coordinator Tokpa Tarnue described Mass communication as a major tool in the development of every society.

According to Mr. Tarnue, although there have unquestionably been incidents in which self-serving politicians have used mass communication to oppress the masses, the mass media has the potential to be a powerful force in the education of the society.

This can be done through the raising of consciousness, the creation of nationhood, and the promotion of socioeconomic development.

“When you talk about communication, you talk about our everyday life and therefore there is absolutely no study that you will effectively do in the absence of communication,” the PUL Lofa Coordinator emphasized.

He further pledged the Union’s commitment in working with Community Radio journalists across the county to take advantage of the Free Pentecostal College and also called on other colleges around the country to also introduce the depart of Mass Communications at their various Institutions.

Speaking earlier, the president of the College, Dr. Joseph N. Glenn lauded Mr. Momo T. Cyrus for the concerned and support being provided to learning institutions in Lofa County and called on other prominent Lofa Citizens to emulate the good examples of Mr. Momo T. Cyrus.

He also disclosed the decision to include the new departments follows several assessments conducted over the years by the college across the county which revealed an increase in criminal activities across the county, increase in the number of Radio Stations in the county.

According to Dr. Glenn, thou the College is faced with countless challenges, they as administration remains committed to molding the minds of not just Lofans but Liberians at large.

Speaking un behave of the Board of Trustees, the chairperson Attorney R. Koryan Bolay praised the SEGAL boss for his contributions towards to running of the College and other co-launches at the ceremony.

Touching on the issue of Agriculture, Attorney Bolay called on the government of Liberia to support mechanized farming if the country is to become self-sufficient.

“We can divide the country into regions and provide machines as a government to be used for the mechanized farming activities in all of the regions and we will soon start to export rice as a country” he noted.

The Free Pentecostal College now Offers Associate degrees in Theology, Business and Liberal Arts, Nursing, Education and Agriculture.
