A member of the 54th Legislature of Liberia, Vicent S.T Willie is seeking a comprehensive audit of the House of Representatives as means of clear up messy system, something this body has resisted to date.

Rep. Willie, who represents Grand Bassa County district #4, sought approval from the plenary of that body to conduct  “a comprehensive”  audit of the House of Rep. from the period covering Fiscal Budget years  2016/2017,  2017/2018 and 2018/2019.

The Grand Bassa County Lawmaker, in his communication to that body, said the conduct of such audit is one of the ultimate ways to improve accessibility and transparency at the Legislature.

“It is vital, as it would enable is to understand how much was allotted for this body and how monies allotted were expended,” Rep. Willie said.

The communication from the Grand Bassa county Lawmaker puts doubts in the minds of ordinary Liberians that even lawmakers are claiming of not being aware of what is allocated for them as the people’s representatives.

Willie further said: “this exercise would also enable us allocate limited resources more effectively, as we all strive to balance our economy for the betterment of us all and Liberian people.”

The Liberian Lawmaker indicated that if other institutions that are funded through the national budget audited, they too need to check themselves of how they spent the Liberian people money.

“It would also be prudent that these instructions and the general public to know the budgetary allocations and performances of the legislature in order to ensure the dark cloud over the House of Representatives by the public,” Rep. Willie stated.

He and other like-minded lawmakers spoke to reporters at the Capitol Building in Monrovia few minutes after electric power outage that caused them to prematurely end session without reaching a decision on the matter during Tuesday’s session.

It is expected that the decision on the matter will be reached on Thursday’s legislative plenary session.
