Marylanders In The US Donate Over US$2K Food Aid To Locals

PLEEBO, Liberia-The Marylanders in the United States of Americas from Rhode Island have donated 150 one hundred and fifty bags of rice25KG and 45gallon of ago cooking oil to citizens in the southeastern County of Maryland, 635 kilometers from Monrovia.

The food stuffs are said to be valued at US$2,650.00.

Maryland is one of the eight counties in Liberia that the Coronavirus pandemic has hit.

According to Mr. Eric Geko, the donation is their way of identifying with our people in the three political districts during the time of this global Coronavirus pandemic..

“This donation is more symbolic ,even if we have brought two thousands bags of rice that will not still enough  we try to show to our people  that we are with them during the time of this crisis and everybody cannot get it “

“I want people from all sections in the county to benefit from the Donations even though is not much but let everybody have a teats and this food was not meant for particular Group.”

Mr.Geko said he has established a Committee that will worked in Collaboration with him to distribute the food supply, so that people from all parts of the County can benefit from the donation.

He has personally taken relief supply to the people of Dukpoken Town in Barrabo District.

“I will be giving them some use Clothes that I personally bought and with  some food items from the Marylanders  in the Marylanders in the Americas and the food items from the Cummings Africa Foundation that have not yet arrived. Dukpoken was badly hit by a heavy storm in April of this year that destroy many House and some Government facilities in that part of Liberia, .

Mr. Geko disclosed that towns and Villages in Harper, Pleebo, Barrabo and Karluway will get the Rice and Oil but, I will also  focus the  Group of Seventy Seven ,the Health Workers at the Pleebo Health Center and if things goes well with my team and I we will start the Rice and oil distribution this Wednesday May 6,2020.

“I appealed and communicated with the Marylanders in the United States of America telling them about the deplorable Condition of the school in Dukpoken and they have agree to reroof and renovate the school. These things are happening because I’m here. The School renovation will starts as early as next week.”

He spoke of the need for locals to appreciate the donation of the food items by Marylanders in the States of Rhode Island in the USA.

“I think it came the best time, because I have not seen any donation from the Liberian Government,” Mr.Geko told www.newspublictrust.com.
