PUL Alarms: Imminent Economic Collapse Of Liberian Media Houses

(Monday), March 30, 2020- The Press Union of Liberia has warned of the risk of closure of several media institutions, if nothing is done to immediately rescue struggling news outlets.


Media houses in Liberia normally fight to keep themselves at float in the face of low activities in the Liberian Economy. 

The situation is now compounded by the Coronavirus Pandemic which has largely paused though negligible but advertisement line, says a PUL press release signed by Secretary General, Musa Kanneh on Monday.


The PUL is requesting support from the Weah Administration, local and international NGOs, bilateral and multilateral partners to help media houses remain open during these difficult moments.


With limited resources, the Media in Liberia has step up sanitization on the deadly Coronavirus and its existence in
Liberia.


The PUL is at the same time calling on media practitioners to remain committed to serving the Liberian People through the provision of
NPHIL approved preventive messages on COVID-19.


On July 17, 2015 former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf admitted the Press Union of Liberia into the Order of the Star of Africa, with the grade of Grand Commander, for the media’s excellent role in the fight against the Ebola virus disease (EVD) which claimed more than 4,800 lives in Liberia between March 2014 and May 2015.
