New Education Foundation launched in Liberia’s Lofa County

-Weedor Korlu Morlu and James Kordor Morlu Foundation kicks off

Voinjama- In an effort to promote Education in Lofa County, an education Foundation has been launched in Lawalazu town, Voinjama district in Lofa County, northwestern Liberia.

The new education foundation named, the Weedor Korlu Morlu and James Kordor Morlu Education Foundation was launched in honor of Mr. James K. Morlu and the late Weedor K. Morlu for their many meaningful contributions to society, mainly Lawalazu and Maimai towns in Lofa County.

Mr. Morlu was once Station Manager of the former independent Star Radio in Liberia, which was established by the Foundation Horrrendial in Switzerland.

The new Education Foundation in Lofa is also geared towards providing educational opportunities and donate educational materials such as copy books, pens, pencils and scholarship to self-supported and deserving students from Lawalazu and Maimai towns.

Giving the over view of the Foundation, the Manager of the Weedor Korlu Morlu and James Kordor Morlu Education Foundation, Rev. Edwin B. Arzoaquoi said the objective of the foundation is to buttress government’s effort to provide quality and affordable education to deserving children who are desirous of learning but could not do so due to the lack support.

Rev. Arzoaquoi however said Weedor Korlu Morlu and James Kordor Morlu Education foundation will continue to pay tuition and other fees for elementary, junior and senior high public schools and as well as college students who are from the two towns and will score the grades required.

He said the Foundation is an initiative of Honorable Victor Namah Fasama who hails from Lawalazu Town and during the launching several scholarships. This  includes 20 for elementary, 9 for Junior high and 14 to the Lofa County Community College while copy books, pens and pencils were giving to students from the both Lawalazu and Maimai public schools for excellence academic performance.

Rev. Arzoaquoi named the minimum of 85 percent for elementary, junior and senior high school students, and 2.50 GPA for College students will benefit from the Foundation scholarships, adding that the Foundation is for scholars and is limited to only citizens from Lawalazu and Maimai Towns for now.

He however disclosed that LD$240,000 Liberian dollars has been provided by Honorable Victor Namah Fasama for the scholarships and other learning materials.

Serving as chief launcher, Mr. James K. Morlu, who before the civil war headed Radio ELRV in Voinjama, thanked the management and founder of the Education Foundation for Honoring by naming them after the Foundation.

Mr. Morlu admonished young people from Lawalazu and Maimai towns to take their lesson seriously, adding that what you want to learn and know, you must put your mind to it, he told the students.

For their parts, the Town Chief of Lawalazu town Mulbah Yenneh who spoke on behalf of Lawalazu and Maiamai towns thanked Weedor Korlu Morlu and James Kordor Morlu Education Foundation for the scholarships and the educational materials provided to their children.

He said the gesture from the Foundation was in the interest of parents who cannot afford paying their children school fees due to lack of money, noting that the situation was also causing some students to drop from school, but the scholarships provided could now allow their children to go back to school.

Also speaking during the launch, the head of the community radio station network in Lofa County and coordinator for the Press Union of Liberia said the effort by Honorable Victor Namah Fasama and his team is highly welcoming.

Mr. Tokpa Tarnue used the occasion to call on other Lofans to emulate the good example of Mr. Fasama in promoting quality and affordable education for kids in Lofa County.

Mr. Tarnue on behalf of Lofa County Community Radio Stations Network presented 20 United States dollars to the foundation and promised his organization unflinching support to the foundation.

The launched was held recently in Lawalazu and subsequently followed by several events, including sporting activities and indoor program.
