HARPER, Liberia-Writing and speaking Standard English seems most problematic for many Liberian students, the President of the William V.S. Tubman University in the southeastern Maryland County says.
Dr. Elliott Wreh-Wilson decried what he says is this entrenched menace in the Liberian education system.
He made the assertion recently, when he made a brief stopover at the validation retreat of the University’s 5-year Strategic Plan held at the Tubman Pavilion on Saturday, December 4, 2021.
Professor Wreh-Wilson expressed his displeasure as he called on faculty at the university to place serious emphasis on ensuring that all students – regardless of their choice of course of study–learn how to write and speak Standard English.
The TU President stated further that the idea behind the Remedial Program at Tubman University is to help students through the intervention of lecturers to deepen their understanding and use of effective English in readiness for their main College programs.
