Liberia Council Of Churches Hails Indian Counsel, Jetty For Feeding “Zogoes”

The Liberia Council of Churches has commended efforts by the retired Indian Counsel General to Liberia, popularly known as “Jetty” in providing meals to hundreds of disadvantaged people locally called “Zogoes” in Monrovia and its environs.

The LCC Secretary General, Reverend Christopher Toe made the commendation during a long meeting with Upjit Singh Sachdeva, held at the offices of the Jetty Trading Corporation in Via Town Bushrod Island Saturday.

He was speaking shortly before the distribution of meals to the disadvantaged youths and less-fortunate people recently.

Rev. Toe said that the LCC sees provision of food to the less fortunate people in the society by Upjit Singh Sachdeva, ‘Jetty’ is a worthy undertaking.

According to Rev. Toe, Mr. Jetty’s gesture is a part of assisting the Liberian people in reducing hunger, which is formed of the pillars of the pro poor agenda and the sustainable development goal

“We have come to collaborate and commend Mr. Jetty for the great initiatives being carried out for the desperate people,” he said, adding: “we appreciate Mr. Jetty for this gesture to our people and we will be feeding about500 people in this community.”

Rev. Toe called on well-established individuals and organizations to support and contribute to the initiatives by Mr. Jetty to feed the less fortunate people in the society.

For his part, Mr. Jetty pointed out that he feels good because he is God’s work and the support by the Liberia Council of Churches is welcome gesture.

According to him, collaborating with the LCC is highly appreciative because feeding the hungry is a part of fulfilling God’s mandate on earth.

“I will continue to collaborate with the Liberia Council of Churches in order to decentralize the distribution of hot meals to the needed in several parts of the country,” he said

Mr. Jetty noted that feeding program over the five years has reached over 2.5 million people and he feeds between 800 to 1,000 persons on a daily basis

The businessman expressed the hope to sustain the feeding of people as long as God blesses him and the resources are provided by the Jetty Trading Corporation and his family.

Mr. Jetty noted that the appreciations and prayers from the beneficiaries mean a lot to him because whatever he is doing is for God’s blessing

The Indian businessman maintained that he does check how much he spent on a daily basis on feeding less fortune people because it has the propensity of discouraging him.

“When you give out, there is no need to check the cost for doing good, because it may make to stop me at certain time of the spending,” he concluded.

Mr. Jetty was accompanied by employees on the distribution of free meals to disadvantage youths by employees of the Jetty Trading Corporation, Reverend Christopher Toe, LCC Secretary General, Esther-line Caroline Solomon, the Financial Officer at the LCC, among others.
