Young Women’s NGO, PAYOWI Ends Mentorship For Academic School Year

Mentoring Clubs Established In Three Counties

The Paramount Young Women Initiative (PAYOWI) headed by its Executive Coordinator Atty. Facia B. Harris over the weekend concluded a day-long conference with female students of their mentoring club under the theme: Empowering young women to lead a better future.

The mentoring club is currently operating in three counties—Montserrado, Margibi and Grand Bassa.

The aims of the mentoring club is to educate female students how to take care of themselves sexually, their sexual reproduction health rights, during and after menstrual period and how they themselves can reduce teenage pregnancy amongst several others.

The Executive director for the president young professional program, Madam Ciatta Stevens d’ Almeida, the keynote speaker at the program, called on Liberians students to focus on their studies.

Madam Almeida called on young girls to take their lesson seriously in promoting peace building and women empowerment in Liberia. Ciata D’ Almeida stressed the need for women empowerment in society.

The program held at the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) in the Congo Town suburb of Monrovia.

At the same time, she encouraged young girls to be focused and to speak mind without fear when it needs to be. Madam D’ Almeida made the statement at a program “Empowerment young women to lead a Better future” at the YWCA in Congo Town.

However, various topics were presented during the program such as; laws and policies, National girls education policy, Sexual Reproductive Health Rights(SRHR), Grooming the leader I am and impacting change, Activism for Social Justice and women’s rights and maintaining a career with integrity and honesty.

During the program, Madam Hawa Wilson, who proxied for Mrs. Aminata Sneh head of secretariat Liberia, said that one key barrier affecting young girls is the teenage pregnancy.

PAYOWI says it has made tremendous efforts in eradicating teenage pregnancy by enhancing capacities of schools by identifying the issues and finding solutions to them.

At the end of the program, one of PAYOWI’s mentees, Roselyne Nimely of Clavery Chapel Mission praised PAYOWI and want them train more mentees so they can also train others. She also appreciated the work of PAYOWI and called on to do more.

Meanwhile, schools who are being mentored by PAYOWI have been certificated to for their participation and timelines time during the academic year 2023-2024.
